My old Macbook Pro is going to the Apple shop this week, so hopefully it won’t take too long to get fixed up. Once it’s back, I’ll finish up the mastering for the Mobile EP and get it uploaded to Bandcamp.

Alan Grosvenor recently moved back to Portland, and we started up a new project together. It’s been great playing with him. Feels just like the old days. So far, a couple songs have been written and we’re still searching for other members.

Duncan Calver and I started practicing a live set for Dunes of Bandon. We’ve still have yet to finish mixing our albums, which is something that I think about daily … trust me. Once my laptop is fixed, we’ll get some of the first tracks sorted out and will release a free EP on Bandcamp.

eleventhfloorrecords vs Jatun is happening, although not under that ghastly name. Niso and Henke hit me up a few months ago with some misfit songs to work on, and I did the same for them. I think there’s 5 or 6 songs that have been written so far. It’s been inactive for a bit due to my laptop problems, but I’ll get back to it eventually.

I’ve also been playing music with a good friend of mine, Ryan McGreer. He has an ambient project called Cloud City Cars. His debut album is up on Bandcamp for free / pay what you want, so you should go download it. The stuff we’ve recorded so far (14+ hours of material) is largely ambient. There’s no name yet, but I’m very eager to get this project playing shows and releasing material.

Lots of projects in the works for this year, let’s hope they all get off the ground.

Moniker and an EP

Recently I asked Jatun fans on Facebook what they would think of me adopting Jatun as a moniker, and releasing all solo produced material (like Biltmore Dive) under that name. Their responses made one thing clear, it doesn’t matter what name I release material under … they just want to hear the music.

So it’s with great pleasure that I announce a new Jatun album, Mobile EP: a free release coming December 2011 via Bandcamp. From here on out, if there’s a real photograph on the album cover it’s an ambient release. I think it will be my way of distinguishing what kind of material is on the album, like how Boris does with lowercase or capital letters on their album covers.

End of Summer update

If you knew Jatun on MySpace anywhere from April 2006 to 2010 (when I received the last message from a real human being on MySpace) you probably know about Biltmore Dive, my ambient project. I’ve recently started working with that material again and started using tumblr for a website and have made a Facebook page as well. Be sure to visit the tumblr page to get details on future releases and stream some songs on the SoundCloud player.

Wonderful news from eleventhfloorrecords, the artwork for the album has now been finished. Mastering was wrapped up around the beginning of this month and I expect that the album should be going to the press sometime soon. I can’t wait for this album to be in our hands.

Jatun fans will be pleased to hear of upcoming EP and full-length releases. I promise you this, this autumn you’ll have some new tracks to bump in your cans.

Comments have now made their appearance on the site. Get to it! You’ll notice the theme has changed because the previous one didn’t allow comments. I’m still on the hunt for a decent theme with a background image option.

Just about finished mixing the debut eleventhfloorrecords album. Just 1 song left to go, and it only needs the smallest adjustment.

I should hopefully have the debut Dunes of Bandon album finished this weekend. It’s been neglected for a few months due to working on Sweden’s most epic album ever. There’s also a second album to mix, but we still need to add some stuff.

The Biltmore Dive full-length, “The Scientist And His Lonely Experiments” is currently in the mixing stage. I still have no plans for this album, and am not sure what I’m going to do with it. Might Bandcamp it, might not. Hmmm…….

My friend Greg and I recently started a podcast called The Deadly Duo. It’s an hour-long show that will be released on the 1st and 15th of every month. I used to podcast quite regularly some years ago, so I’m looking forward to getting back into the game. There’s no set format for the show really, we’ll keep things fresh by playing from lots of different genres.

My remix of Anklebiter’s “Absolution Is A Plushtoy” has been released on Tympanik Audio on CD and is available digitally worldwide here soon. For a short time you can stream the track on my SoundCloud page.

There’s a new Jatun album in the works. I don’t know if it’s going to be an EP or full-length at this point, but I should hopefully get that wrapped up within a few months time. It’s been pushed back a bit since I’m moving into a different house at the end of this month.

Last, but not least, I’ve been writing a lot of different material these days (nearly 2 albums worth), stuff that reeks of the early 1990’s. It’s a mesh of shoegaze & heavy indie rock that’s largely inspired by bands like Hum, Castor, Shiner, Swervedriver, Yo La Tengo, Archers of Loaf, Pia Fraus, My Bloody Valentine, Codeine, Earth, and Boris. There’s a bit of a doom vibe on these songs thanks to the wall of fuzzed out guitars, which I’m sure is going to make some Jatun fans quite happy. I’m hoping to put a 4-piece together by the end of this year and still have yet to come up with a name.

It’s amazing how the reflections from the windows line up almost perfectly.

This is probably my favorite photo from the trip. This was taken the 2nd to last night I was there, after we had spent a good part of the day walking around in Copenhagen. We all gathered at Niso’s house while him and Henke made a traditional Swedish meal (meatballs with a dense gravy, mashed potatoes, and lingonsylt). The guys were having such a good time making dinner, I just had to capture the moment. It was one of the many highpoints of the trip, and a night to remember.

Niso showing his approval of the 3 pints of Tuborg Gold that we sipped on while sitting outside in Copenhagen. It was a really cool section of town that reminded me a lot of Amsterdam. I love how they pull the bars out to the street when it’s warm and sunny outside.

I learned a new Swedish word that day, “lagom”. There’s no real English equivalent, but “just enough” is pretty close I think.

The day before we had started to work on the album, the boys took me for a little drive around Malmö. I remember that Niso had stopped at this one place to show me a building that’s in one of the eleventhfloorrecords pictures. Around the corner was the original Hells Angels HQ and then there was this odd little place. I recall there being a plaque on the house stating that an Olympic athlete used to live there. The creepy doll / mannequin hand that sticks out of a painting is really cool, but it’s kind of hard to see in the picture.
